Date Night

Last night hubbs and I met after work at The Cheesecake Factory for dinner. It was national cheesecake day so their slices were half off. We had a very nice dinner, I was very proud of hubbs for going outside of his comfort zone and NOT getting a burger. He got a very tasty pasta dish. I had the most amazing rare tuna. It was pepper crusted and had a wasabi dipping sauce. It came with a fantastic salad and the juciest tomatoes I've ever eaten. UGH I wish I could eat like this every day.
Then the cheesecake!!!! Hubbs had a peanut butter fudge slice, and I had white chocolate raspberry truffle! OH MY GOD! That was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth..and I'm sure the unhealthiest, but it's not like we do this every day. It was a really nice night, we don't go out like this too much

Lately I've been surfing around online looking at various tutorials for making clay beads. I've been fascinated by the construction of the canes. How the colors are blended, how blocks of clay come together to make beautiful designs. There are some truly beautiful clay beads out there. These are some that stood out to me on Etsy...maybe I'll buy some canes and slice them off and bake them myself

Today's feature is CLAY CANES

National Cheesecake Day

Today is national cheesecake day!! To celebrate hubby and I are going to the cheesecake factory after work for dinner and half priced cheesecake! Hopefully there won't be a huge crowd.

Hubby is getting his work schedule changed which is good. He's going to be working a normal 40 hour week instead of the 50+ hours he's been working, and he's going to be getting paid differently which will hopefully equal MORE MONEY. On Tuesdays our work schedules cooincide, and since we work 2 miles apart we've been talking about carpooling on those days. I think it would be fun. He's also getting most Saturdays off soon so we're planning a weekend trip. We're debating on a few places but I think we're settled on going to Williamsburg. I found a really cheap hotel...I'm talking under $30 a night and it's not a crappy hotel either.

I still have unpacking to do....and my wire and beads are still packed away somewhere. But for now the crochet and soda tabs have been keeping my hands busy. Moreto come on that front

Almost Finished

Well my soda tab purse is almost finished. The outer shell of it is done. All that's left is to put in a lining and install a zipper. I had a blast working with the soda tabs. I've got tons more of them and I'm thinking of other purses that I can make with them. I already have an idea for the next one

Fallen Princesses

I just came across this amazing phot series called "Fallen Princesses" by Dina Goldstein. These photos are amazing to me. And they got me thinking. What is it about the Disney Princesses that every girl loves? Didn't we all want to be one of them at some point in our lives? Why? Was it their "perfect" lives? Was it because in the end they got their prince?

These are my two favorite in the series, but check out all the photos

Feeding the urge

I've been feeding my crochet urges lately. I had some really cute yarn and about a thousand soda tabs, so I made these. I'm thinking about stitching them together, adding a lining and zipper and making a little pouch out of them. They were really fun to make, I'll probably make more of them in different colors.

The other thing I've been working on is a purse made with soda tabs. I made one with a thicker yarn but hated how it came out, so typical me, I unraveled it and started over. This time I used a much thinner yarn and I'm much happier with how it's comming out. I think I'll make it into a clutch or a wristlet, something smaller than a purse. I'm loving working with the soda tabs and crochet, though with the tendonitis in my hands holding the crochet hook gets painful after a while

No hunny, that's not how it works

Last night was hubby's day off and he said he wanted to make me dinner, he decided he wanted cheese steak sandwiches for dinner. I had a nice piece of meat that I sliced up very thin that I thought would work well. I bought a loaf of garlic bread to use (YUMMY)And sauted some baby portobellos with some onions and garlic, and made a nice salad to go with it. After I had everything ready, and I made a pitcher of Crystal Light, hubby comes over and throws the meat slices onto a frying pan. After they're done we thougth that the meat was too tough to be good in the sanwiches as it was so I chopped the meat up, and I assembled the sandwiches. Then I cleaned up and loaded the dishwasher....

But he thinks he made dinner

For some reason I've had a strong desire to crochet lately. I was at the store and saw some super cute yarn that I had to buy. I made this little cat toy. It's a mouse with a very long tail. The kitties both love it. I hold onto one end of the tail and throw the mouse and then pull it back to me. They love it!

I still have a lot of yarn left, and I have a ton of soda tabs, I'm thinking about making a purse out of them either for myself or to list on Etsy. I'm playing around with some designs for it.

Another long night

Night two sleeping with kitten

it wasn't quite as bad as the first night, since I think all of us knew more about what to expect. But my goodness that little girl has energy...and she seems to save it all until I'm trying to fall asleep. Luckily for him my husband is a deep sleeper so nothing she did bothered him, even when she was playing with his beard...for some reason she's in love with his chin fuzz. But all night all I would hear was her running around, feel her climbing up on the bed, stick her nose in my eye, and run off. Occasionaly I would hear a low growl from Peanut.

Peanut is doing much better with her. She tolerates being near her and even sniffs her a lot. Kara is enjoying stalking Peanut and pouncing on her tail when she isn't looking. It's very cute. Occasionaly now Peanut will give me a look, as if she's saying "why did you bring this thing here" LOL

A Restless Night

Since Sunday when we got her, Kara has been spending the night in our spare bedroom since Peanut wasn't getting along with her too well. Last night it seemed that Peanut finaly understood that she's not going anywhere and stopped hissing at her...mostly. So we figured we'd try to let Kara into our bedroom with us for the night. Well our first night with the two cats was a bit rough. Every once in a while I would hear a little hiss or a growl but nothing huge. But of course Kara wanted to play at night and since I'm a very light sleeper she kept waking me up. She also kept attacking my feet. Which I guess if you're watching it would look cute, but in reality it was like getting stabbed in the toes with many tiny needles. More than a few times I woke up with Peanut curled up against me on one side, and Kara curled up against me on another side. And a few times I woke up with Kara curled up on my husband.

It seems like for now Peanut is tolerating Kara. I hope that soon she will become friendly with her. One of the main reasons we wanted a second cat was to keep Peanut company.

More features

Ahhh life with a kitten. Now in the mornings I wake up a little earlier to give her some attention before I go to work. Since she's still not getting along with Peanut, Peanut gets to sleep in bed with us, but kitten who we're naming Kara (yeah Starbuck hehe) is spending the night in the second bedroom. As soon as my alarm goes off, she starts crying. So I take a shower and get ready for work as quick as I can, and then I let her out so she can run around for a bit. Boy does she have a lot of energy....

In honor of my new kitten and my dear Peanut, today's featured Etsy items will be Cats

Treasury YAY

I was featured in a treasury by Rhiannon228. I was looking through her shop and she has some amazing paintings.

I think this one is my favorite. I love the detail in her eye and hair. She looks like she has a secret.

Pictures of the kitten!

Here she is! I think we settled on the name Kara for her. We'll see how she takes to it before I have a name tag made for her. She's a playfull little thing, and so cuddly. Hopefully Peanut will stop hissing at her soon.

We got a kitten today! WOO. She's a little black and white Tuxedo cat. We don't have a name for her. I'm thinking of giving her a name from some of the TV shows we love, like Star Trek, Battlestar, or Buffy...but so far nothing seems to fit her.

She's such a sweet girl. She's a cuddler. Right now my husband is playing the new Ghostbuster's game with her curled up on his chest. Before that she was asleep on me for a while...she must have had an interesting dream because her paws were twitching like she was running, it was so cute.

Unfortunately our introduction of her to Peanut didn't go so smooth. We let Peanut out of the bedroom and the kitten jumped out of her box and headed right for the bedroom with Peanut right behind her and they both dove under the bed with Peanut hissing and growing at her. We got the kitten out of there and closed the door so Peanut stayed in there, then the kitten went around the apartment looking for various hiding spots and not really coming out much. Now she's venturing out and climbed up on the couch and cuddled with us.

Tomorrow I'm home from work because there's an exterminator coming to the apartment (They're doing the whole development, not that we have any pests) so I'll try to give them a little bit of time together and see what happens.

With the whole moving thing, I would say that I haven't touched my wire in almost a month (except to pack it). I think I'm going through craft withdrawl. I've been browsing through things on Etsy and other blogs and I keep finding all these other crafty things that I would love to try to do.

I think my next project as soon as I'm settled in the new apartment is going to be a purse made from soda pop tops. My husband takes a can of soda with him for lunch every day and I have a small collection of them already, but I did order some (ok so it was like 500) on Ebay. Through looking at pictures of some of the others out there I think I have the technique figured out. I can't wait to get started on this project.

There are some sellers on Etsy who make these purses and they are amazing. I realy love these by PopTopLady

I'm still alive!

I've been terrible lately and been completely ignoring my blog.....but there is a reason. My husband and I just moved into a new apartment. I have been very busy packing, and now unpacking. Hopefully I'll have everything done soon and can get back to trying to regularly update my blog.

My fingers are itching to get back to my wire...I just have to find the box it was all packed in
