Aren't these just the cutest?

Well aren't they? I absolutely love these little earrings! They're so frakking cute. Small and colorful and so perfect for Halloween. I even made an extra pair of each one to keep for myself.

Opinions please

I've set a goal for myself to put many more items in my etsy shop, and to have a variety....earrings, necklaces, bracelets and maybe even some other things. I'd also like to have items of different prices also, including some innexpensive simpler items. I've been working on some simpler bracelets, and made some simple earrings as well. It's been fun. I have new heavy gave wire on order, and as soon as that arrives I have an idea for a wrapped filligree pendant that I've been thinking about for quite some time. And there's a funny story as to what my inspiration for it was....but more to come on that later
As part of my goal of having a variety, I've been exploring making some jewelry out of alternative materials, like the soda tabs I've been working with. In working with the soda tabs I've come to greatly enjoy crocheting again. So I've been thinking about someway to incorprate crochet with jewelry. Here's my first attempt. I don't know if I should make a second one and call it a pair of earrings, or keep it as one and call it a pendant. Or if the idea itself doesn't even work. What do you think?

National Dog Day

From holidayinsights.com
National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.
This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.
The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelesness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day

so to celebrate, today's featured items are DOGS

More colors

When I really get into a project I go through my supplies very quickly. The thread earrings used up a surprisingly lot of wire. While I wait for more to come in the mail, I needed to do something to keep my hands busy. So I put the scraps of wire to use. I made each link in these bracelets with a piece of scrap wire, so I guess you can call them recycled LOL. And once again, lots of colors

The Colors

I made several pairs of earrings using the thread weaving technique I just learned. I'm loving it! It's so much fun to make and I love exploring all the different color combinations. Next I'm going to try different frame shapes to see how the thread weaving changes in each new shape. But need more supplies first. It's felt good to get my hands back on my wire too. I haven't really used it since we moved. I didn't realize how little I have left right now, need to order more.
The kitties have greatly enjoyed having lots of thread around. If I don't wrap a spool up quickly, it gets knocked to the floor and batted around and I have to go chasing them for it.

Kitty update

Kara went back to the vet. He rechecked her eyes and ears, and said everything looks good. Her eyes are healing well and we only have to give her the ointment through the rest of the week. And he said there were no signs of live mites in her ears, so we just have to finish out the month with the drops. She also got her boosters and a rabies shot. Poor baby. But at least no more vet visits with her for a while

Man these animals cost a small fortune don't they

chocolate, good.....bacon, good

I have to admit, the thought of chocolate covered bacon at first grossed me out. Sure, who doesn't love these things seperately, but together?

But lately it seems this has been all the rage. I've seen chocolate covered bacon the center of discussion on various internet forums, websites and finaly on Food Network itself. Well that was the last straw and I had to try it for myself

I looked around online to find out the best kind of bacon to use, and which kind of chocolate would work best with it. Dark, milk, semi sweet, white, there are so many kinds. Most of the recipes I encountered online were using semisweet, so that's what I bought, and some nice thick cut bacon

After the bacon was fried up very crispy, and the chocolate was melted, the two met. There was some resistance at first but they soon became quick friends. After they were all dipped and stowed in the fridge I waited for my husband to come home before trying it. When he saw it, the look on his face was...well he looked like he was thinking that I ruined some perfectly good bacon and chocolate.

But....after tasting it....WOW. How did nobody think of this sooner? The crispy salty smokey flavor of the bacon and the chocolate were made for each other. It was nothing short of fantastic!

A few things I would do differently next time though. One, the bacon I got was very lean which after it was cooked made it more like ham than bacon. Next time I think a slightly more fatty bacon. Two, next time I'll try for a slightly thinner coat of chocolate. There were some pieces where the chocolate dominated the bacon, and I think this work best if there was an equal ratio of chocolate to bacon

I don't think I'll be making this again sometime soon, only because of the incredibly unhealthy nature of it. Maybe if I have some people over. But overall it was great!

Productive weekend

As I mentioned in an earlier post we were thinking of painting our dining room. We had some reservations since we're in a rental and any painting would have to be repainted the original color when we move out. But we love the place and it's big enought that we can be there for years to come even when we have kids. So we took the plunge and painted. We've always talked about our dream dining room being a dark red with white trim. Well we did it! I absolutely love it. Or course the only thing I can see right now are all the spots that need to be touched up and we used every last drop of the two gallons that we got. I'm going to have to get a small can for touch ups. But I love it!!

here is the before:

Poor little baby

Yesterday Kara had an appointment at the vet to get her boosers and a rabies shot. Well she didn't get any of those. We had noticed the night before that her left eye was very red and puffy and had distarge. And she was pawing at it a lot. Luckly we already had the vet appointment scheduled. When we got there the vet took one look at her and said she had tons of ear mites. This is pretty common among animals from shelters. So we have to give her drops three times a day for 21 days. Then the vet looked at her eye and thought she had a scratch so she did a dye test. Turns out her left eye has TWO scratches and her right eye has a scratch. So we have to put ointment in her eyes twice a day and I'm bringing her back in a few days to follow up on her eyes. After going through all that and having blood drawn, the vet decided that getting the shots would be too much stress for the poor baby.
But everybody in the office kept commenting about how beautiful her diamonds were. My pretty little girl

Today after already getting drops four times and ointment four times she is worn out. I took a day off of work today and she has just been asleep on me all day. I had planned on getting a lot of crafting done (and yeah I guess some cleaning and unpacking) but I've just been sitting enjoying the new premium cable channels we just orderd and the sleepy purring kitty on my chest. And I've been snapping random cute pictures of her all day

A new obsession

This is my brand new obsession. I saw a pair of earrings with this thread weaving and I just fell head over heels in love with it. I love the colors, the different combinations, the look, everything about it. This was my first attempt at making one myself. It's not the best but I learned a lot making it. I can see where I will have trouble, that is where the thread starts and stops. This particular color combination I'm calling peacock, because it looks like a peacock feather to me. As of right now there's just one so it is a pendant. I'll probably make a second one tonight to practice the technique more and then call it earrings. I just love these! I can use so many different colors!

Feelin' Blue

For as long as I can remember I have been in love with cobalt glass. Whenever I went to a store with my parents I'd always stare at all the dark blue cobalt dishes and glasses and think how beautiful they were. When I got married and we went to buy our own dishes my husband told me "I know it's kind of weird, but do you think we could get the cobalt dishes? I've always loved them" This is one of the many many reasons I know this man is my soul mate. So now we collect cobalt items. We have our dish sets, drinking glasses, wine glasses, cookie jars, canisters, butter dishes, even our silverware has cobalt handles

Yesterday I bought a cobalt item on Etsy, and I can't wait to get it. It's going up on the wall I think....I think I want to get a second smaller one too to hand next to it. I love what this seller does. Check out the shop, it's so creative what they do with these wine bottles MintyFreshFusions

If only there were more hours in the day

There's always so much I want to do, but never enough time in a day to get it all done. I keep finding all these wonderful things I want to make but I don't have enough time for it all. If only I could quit my job and stay home and craft all day....and still be able to pay the bills. Though I'm pretty sure that if I was a full time crafter I would never cook, clean, or do laundry LOL. As it is, when I get home from work all I want to do is craft. It's getting harder and harder to tear myself away from my various projets to make dinner and to clean up

The other day I found something new and beautiful that I want to try, but I'm not going to say what it is yet. I did a sample last night and it was amazing. I loved how it came out and even my husband was impressed. So I just need to get a few supplies for it and I can make something up to show everyone and to list in my shop. Hopefully after today's eye doctor appointment we can swing by the store and pick up what I need. Ooooo I can't wait!!!

My, how time flies

It doesn't feel like it, but it's been just over a month since we moved into our new apartment. And I'm embarassed to say, that we have not finished unpacking. Part of the problem is that all of the boxes are out of sight in the second bedroom behind closed doors. Every day while I'm at work I tell myself that when I get home I'm going to unpack just one box, and then I get home and I'm tired and I just want to relax and craft. Hubbs got this Saturday off so we promised each other we would attack the boxes. We've also been debating on whether or not we want to paint in the apartment. Since it is a rental if we were to paint, we would have to revert everything back to the original color when we move out. But since we're very happy with the place and see ourselves living there for at least a few years I don't think that's a problem. I would love to paint, as is the walls are a horrible ivory color. It makes everything look so bland and sterile. I would love to bring some warmth into the place. I think it would help make it feel more like home. Hubbs and I have always dreamed of having a deep red dining room, now's our chance. I think there's a way we can put a chair rail up without damaging the walls too much. That would be fantastic. Something like in the picture, but without the red ceiling.

Yes, you can buy anything on Ebay

I guess the phrase is true, one person's trash is another person's treasure. My husband laughed at the idea of buying these soda tabs, but where else am I supposed to get a large amount of them quickly? So I got this package of 1,000 soda tabs. This is in addition to the 500 that I bought previously that went into the purple purse (I need to finish that). These were kind of all dirty and sticky so they needed to be washed well. And yes, that is a toothbrush. I use my old toothbrush to scrub each and every single one of these little tabs, and then lay them out on some paper towel to dry. It's a lot of extra work, but if I'm going to sell something I'm not going to have it be dirty and sticky. These tabs are destined to be bracelets, and purses. It's so much fun to work with them!

So many projects at once

As a result currently I have 4 things I'm working on right now. I've posted pictures of the soda tab bracelets I've been making. And of the soda tab purse I made which is still waiting for it's lining and zipper (just got them in the mail yay). I've also started a black soda tab clutch bag, and I bought a pattern for a super cute pair of mary jane crochet slippers. I've never worked with a pattern before and I admit it confused the heck out of me. I had to read it and reread it many times before it finaly made sense. So far I have the soles done. I'm also working on a scarf for my husband. Yes I know it's very early. But with with all my othre projects I haven't had done much yet, and what I have done I keep unraveling because I'm not sure what kind of stitch to use

I also have a design in mind for a piece of jewelry. But since I'm still not unpacked completely (I know I know it's been a month already) It's going to have to wait.

Featured Items

Today's features are a little different. These are things that I've bought. Obviously these specific items are gone but these are some talented artists who have other amazing things in their shops, check them out!

Skull Adjustable Cat Collar from missmoustache This is quite possibly my favorite thing EVER. Peanut looks so cool in this collar! I need to get one for Kara but I still haven't decided what color she should wear

More crochet goodness

I' ve been having a blast with my crochet hooks and yarn! I've collected a few hooks in different sizes, from very very tiny to huge. Some hooks I've seen are so big that I can't imagine actually working with them. Working with the soda tabs has been fun (even though hubbs thinks it's strange). Last night I made this super cute bracelet. I love it! It's so fun and unique. The tie closure adds a nice little detail to it. I plan to make more in different colors and styles. The only downside to this is that years of heavy typing has pretty much ruined my hands and working with the tiny hook and thin yarn is quite painful.

This could be trouble....

Oh this kitten....she drives me absolutely crazy!! But I love her to death. I'm a bit concerned that Peanut has been more distant from me since we got her so I try to make extra time to give Peanut extra scritchies and cuddles. Sometimes Kara will do something like, bite Peanut's tail, or steal a bit of her food and Peanut will turn and give me this look that seems to say "Why did you do this to me" But sometimes when they think I'm not looking I catch them cuddling together...which I have yet to get a picture of. They always seem to know when I want to take a picture.

What I think could be trouble though is that Kara is fearless. She has no problem jumping from very high things, like on top of my dresser or ME. She's so small, and when we got her she was recovering from a broken leg that I worry that she'll hurt herself. But so far she seems perfectly fine with it and looks like she has fun with all four paws spread out in mid air. She's also always going after Peanut. Sometimes it's very cute. She'll hide behind something and jump out right in front of her. Sometimes Peanut plays with her, sometimes she hisses at her.

She's also fearless about people food. THIS is what I think could be a problem. With our other cats, Peanut and Bellatrix (RIP) they would always be curious about what we were eating but showed very little interest in eating it themselves. We would give them a tiny bit to sniff and usualy that would be enough and they would leave. Sometimes they'd give it a little nibble. But Kara seems to love everything. Everything we give her to sniff she tries to gobble up. It's not that she's hungry, she has constant access to cat food. Don't worry she does NOT get to regularly eat people food. Peanut, if she likes something we're eating which is rare, gets to have a few bites of it. But Kara, being a kitten doesn't get any people food to eat...but she has snuck a few bites from a plate when we weren't looking

And at night this little girl is a terror. That's when she's most active. She chases anything that isn't nailed down. There have been times when I've woken up to find my glasses on the floor across the room. She's also a foot pouncer. Being summer we have very thin blankets and she just loves to pounce on a moving foot under the blanket. And without fail every day since we've gotten her, she's woken me up at 5am demanding some cuddles.

It's quite fortunate for this little girl that she's so adorable...who could stay mad at this little thing

And some pictures of Peanut

No hunny that's not how it works, part II

The other day hubbs was home late from work. Now I have to give him credit, he DID call and tell me that he was going to be late. BUT he called and told me at the time that he should have been home. So there I am, I have dinner all hot and steamy and ready to go, and he calls and says he's going to be late. Yes hunny, thank you for calling, but I already know that you're going to be late since you're not here. It doesn't do me much good if I already made dinner does it? I can't seem to get him to understand that he should call and let me know at the time that he normally leaves so I know not to start dinner.

Ahhh men, can't live with them......but somebody's gotta open those pickle jars

This one is just a huge pet peeve of mine. Punctuality is very important to me. I think there's nothing more rude than being late to something without calling ahead...especially when there are people waiting for you and especialy if someone is waiting for you with food. In this day and age where everyone has a cell phone, there's just no excuse to be late. To me, walking in more than 5 minutes late says "I don't care about you at all, being here is a waste of my time, I'd rather be somewhere else" What really drives me batty is when people don't CARE that they're late. Sure shit happens and sometimes being late is unavoidable. But most people come in apologizing and feel bad about it.
And to me, kids are NOT an excuse for being late. Unless you brought the baby home yesterday, you know what to expect, you know how long it takes you to get your kids ready, so start earlier.

He loves plants but we don't keep any inside beause the cats always nibble on them and many houseplants are toxic to kitties. So when we moved and our apartment had this great big deck planting flowers was the first thing he wanted to do. Of course I'm not allowed to go anywhere near them, as I am the one who killed bamboo (I swear it had water) and a cactus. The only thing I insisted on having was a little tomato plant. We found a nice one, it was on the big side, came in a nice planter and even had a frame included for it to climb up. And it had a bunch of little green tomatoes already on it. So for weeks I waited and waited. And one day there they were, red and ready to be picked! We were like little kids picking them. After a thourough washing they were eaten my favorite way, sliced up with just a pinch of salt. YUMMY!
