"It's a doodle. I do doodle"

The other day I made a doodle at work of something I wanted to make. The doodle turned into something more elaborate and fancy and complex, and something that I couldn't get out of my brain
This was probably one of the most complex things I've ever put together. It took lots of trial and error to get all the elements to fit together perfectly

Workplace Temptations

Weight loss challenge: free dounts at work

I took a few bites out of one and threw the rest away. I still logged it as a whole donut though. I'm dreading the next time someone brings in pizza. I know I won't be able to resist

Weigh in Wednesday

Earlier this week I was going through my wallet and found an Applebees gift card for $15. After going online and checking the balance, and discovering that it still had $15 on it hubbs and I decided to go out for dinner. I'd been wanting to try something from their under 550 calorie menu.

I ordered the Asiago Peppercorn Steak. And it was surprisingly good! A smaller portion than most restaurant portions, but that's a good thing, and the average plate should really feed two people. It came with a good sized piece of steak, some delicious potatoes, and some bland steamed veggies. The steak was acutally bigger than I was expecting and was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly rare in side, tender and juicy.

So it's nice to know that if friends want to go out to eat I can suggest Applebees, and order this and not blow everything, plus nobody will really know you've ordered something "diet".

Weigh in Wednesday week2 results: -2 pounds -8 total
I'm a little dissapointed with this week's loss, but I did have a bit of a gain on Monday. Hopefully I'll do a little better for next week

Best of both worlds

Ever since I finished the granny square blanket I've been wanting to make more. And I found a project that incorporates both jewelry and crochet.

These were pretty tricky. I've never worked with yarn this thin in a single strand. Usually I would double it, but to keep the bracelets from being too big I kept it single. And man was it hard on my fingers!

The hardest part of working with yarn that thin was keeping all of the stitches tight and neat. But I think they came out cute. I have a few more color combinations I'm working on (can't wait to finish the black and red one) and I also want to make a few necklaces too.

Weigh in Wednesday

Last night hubbs and I did something unusual....we had fish for dinner. That's right! As much as we both love sushi, we both are not fans of cooked fish. But we're both trying to get healthier so we decided to give it a try, and salmon was on sale. I got a fillet big enough for two, put it in a baking dish skin side down, covered the top of it with thin slices of lemon and onion, a little sprinkle of salt, and a few small dots of butter and baked it until it was flaky, about 15 minutes. And you know what, it was GOOD! Even hubbs liked it!

We had a huge bowl of salad as a side with one of my favorite dressings a balsamic vinaigrette with a splash of soy sauce. I know it sounds a bit weird, but it's so tasty!

Another Bracelet

Yep, another one! I love making these. this one is thinner and dantier than the other ones. The filigree element is narrower on it. In the center is one of my favorite deep purple flowers. I love these little guys

One of my favorite parts of this bracelet is the little floral connector in the chain.

Sumertime Treat

On a hot sticky day, what could be more refreshing than a cold treat made from fresh sweet strawberries?

Well ok, it hasn't been that hot yet, and I used frozen strawberries. But the results are still delicious.

Frozen Strawberry Lime Bars
You will need:
~two packages of frozen strawberries
~one tablespoon of sugar
~one fresh lime

Empty the bags of the frozen strawberries into a large bowl. Toss them with the sugar. As the strawberries thaw, the sugar will make them release lots of juice. Set aside a few berries, about 5 or 6 (more if you want more chunks, less if you want less)

Pour the rest of the thawed strawberries and all the juice, as well as the juice and zest of one lime into a blender and blend it until smooth. Give the berries you set aside a rough chop and add them to the pure, stir them in with a spoon.

I didn't have any Popsicle molds so I used little 5oz cups and some pretty sparkly plastic drink stirrers that I found on clearance. Pour the mixture into your mold of choice and freeze until hard. If you're using cups, cover them in plastic or foil to prevent any freezer smell from getting in. Once they're partially frozen, insert the stick into the center

To unmold if you're using Popsicle molds dip them in hot water for a few seconds. If you're using a paper cup just rip the cup off the pop

I just found out....

I've been browsing through different kinds of foods and how many calories they have to see what kinds of things I can eat more of and still stay on track with my weight loss. I made a very happy discover....SHRIMP! I double checked with a few different websites in addition to my handy dandy Lose It! app, and a medium size shrimp has only 5 calories in it! Unfortunately they seem to be a little high in colesterol so they're not going to be an every day food. But it's nice to know that when they're on sale once in a while I can have an amazing shrimp-filled meal and it won't cost me that much in calories.

Today shrimp happened to be on sale at my grocery store, so I bought myself a pound (hubbs doesn't like shrimp so they're all for me!) and I put half in the freezer for another day. I've never peeled or deveinged shrimp before and let me tell you, next time I'll seriously consider getting the more expensive pre peeled and deveined ones.

I think shrimp are one of those foods that shouldn't have much done to them, they should be cooked simply. My favorite way is just to saute them in a little butter and garlic. And to go with it, I made another favorite, lightly wilted spinach. To cook that after the shrimp were done I picked them out of the pan and left all the drippings. I added a touch more butter and some more garlic. Once the garlic was cooked I turned off the pan and added the spinach. The leftover heat in the pan was enough to cook the spinach perfectly. Not raw, but not completely wilted mush either.

I could eat this every day!

I actually made some earrings!

I feel like it's been all about bracelets lately. So here are some new earrings.

My favorite stone, amethyst. Goes nice with the pearls I think. Making these earrings has made me want to try my hand at some actual filigree work. With a torch and everything.

These I've been thinking about for a while. I've been wanting to incorporate the swirly silver bits with some of the flower beads. It took me a while to actually figure out how to get them together. I tried a couple of other designs but the flowers just didn't want to cooperate.

Great Weight Loss Tool

If you're trying to loose weight and you have an iphone, itouch, or ipad, you have to check out this great app. It's called "Lose it". It is a daily calorie tracker plus more.

To start out, you have to enter your beginning weight. This was the worst part for me. You also enter your age, height, gender, goal weight, and how many pounds you want to loose each week. It only lets you choose up to two pounds a week. Anything more than that is considered dangerous and unhealthy. Then it calculates for you how many calories you should eat in a day. It also gives you an estimated time frame in which you will loose the weight.

Simple right?

Then all you have to do is just enter everything you eat and try to stay under the budget it gives you. What's great about the app is that it has a HUGE database of food, fresh foods, store bought foods, and even restaurant foods. The foods you eat are subtracted from your daily budget. You can enter physical activity as well, which will subtract calories from what you've eaten. If what you need to enter is not in the database it's a snap to add it.

The app also works with a website. You can export your data to it and print it out. There's also a great community. A forum lets you chat with other people and keeps you motivated

I've been using this app for a little while and I definatly see a difference. Entering everything I eat makes me stop and think about it first. Do I really want that extra serving? Do I want to see my daily intake go into the red? Plus the feeling of seeing the chart go DOWN is great! If you stick to the budget it gives you, you'll lose weight. So I think this app is definately worth getting!

and of course, the app is FREE

New Feature on Etsy

Am I the last one to know about this? Well in case I'm not there's a new cool feature on Etsy. When you look at your favorites, it now gives you suggestions.

I've found a lot of great new (to me) shops through this feature! Well I guess that could be a bad thing since it makes me want to spend a lot of money LOL

I'm going to also be trying to update regularly about my weightloss progress. -2 pounds this week

Lots of bracelets

Lately it's been all about bracelets. I loved the steampunk one and made a few more similar to them. One of them even sold within two hours after listing it!

And this one is one of my favorites. I haven't done these little wire swirls in a while, and it did take me more than a few tries to get them all the same size.

I love how from far away the center looks like a little rose
