Weigh in Wednesday

Hubbs and I have decided to really try to loose weight again. I guess you can call it our New Year's resolutions. We're using a great app on each of our smart phones to track calories, and I've been using a great workout game on the Wii. As of this morning I'm down three pounds. Not bad for a week.

One of the low calorie recipes I've discovered has been great especially this time of year. We've had some pretty cold days here and what is better when it's cold out than a big bowl of chili?

Low Calorie Turkey Chili
Ingredients:
1LB ground turkey
1 large onion, diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
4 roma tomatoes, diced
1 can red beans
1 can black beans
1 small can tomato sauce
1 tbsp each of chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, black pepper, salt
1 tsp red pepper flakes

Saute the onions in the bottom of a large pot until they are tender. Add the red and green peppers and saute until they are slightly softened. Add the ground turkey and seasonings. Saute until the turkey is fully cooked. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beans. Simmer for at least an hour.

Of cours the longer you let it simmer the better it will be. Using ground turkey instead of beef keeps the calories down. Personally I add a lot more spices to mine, but I would recommend starting with the recipe's recommendation and then adding more if you like.
